Google Drive: Working with Files Offline
Working with files in Google Drive can be challenging if your device isn't connected to the internet. Fortunately, there are a number of features that can help make the experience relatively seamless (the following is adapted from here).
Make non-Google files on your desktop available offline
- On your desktop, click Drive File Stream
.
- Click Open Google Drive
.
- Go to the file or folder you want to access offline, right-click it, and select Drive File Stream
Available offline.
Make Google files on the web available offline
Set up offline availability (one time only):
- Install the Google Docs Offline extension.
- In Drive, click Settings

Settings.
- In the Offline section, check the Create, open and edit your recent Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files on this device while offline box.
- Click Done.
- Right-click a file and turn on Available offline.
Make Google files on your mobile devices available offline
- On your Android or Apple® iOS® device, open the Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides app.
- Tap Menu

Settings.
- Turn on Make recent files available offline.
Heads up that working with files offline can sometimes be tricky:
Comment added by Test Student while offline:

Test Student went back online at 9:23 AM, but it turns out Yossi had added a comment in that thread during that time (note the time stamp change on Test Student's comment from the previous screenshot).
