MacBook Swap: Computer Transition Checklist

When you receive a new MacBook, before swapping out your old MacBook, be sure to copy your files to Google Drive using either Google Drive on the web or Google Drive Desktop.

Those files may include:

General Files and Folders from your Desktop, Documents, and Downloads folders
Photos
- From your Pictures folder
- Photos and albums from the Photos app library
- Desktop background images
Music
- From your Music folder, including the “iTunes Media” folder
- Playlists in the iTunes library
Videos
- From your Movies folder
- iMovie Library
Info from Browsers
- Bookmarks from Safari (File > Export Bookmarks) or Firefox (instructions); for bookmarks in Chrome, turn on Sync
- Note any saved passwords from Safari and/or Firefox; for passwords in Chrome, turn on Sync
Apps
- App license codes (we have the license codes for most apps, but we may not have licenses for more obscure apps)
- Dock layout: Take a screenshot to capture the layout of the dock
Miscellaneous
- Fonts (Open the Font Book app, select fonts, click File > Export Fonts)
- Sticky Notes (File > Import Text or File > Export Text)
